How to Stall
By Jay
A
stall is very simple, and it's probably the foundation built on grinding.
If you are a beginner, I would start learning with
stalls first, then to grinds. A stall is just jumping and locking onto
something (i.e. curb or rail) with your skates in a trick position and staying
there for a few seconds, then exiting off.
First,
you have to find a place to stall. Almost anything work such as a curb, ledge, rail, etc. Skate
up to the thing that you are going to stall at a normal speed, not too fast because you don't want to
grind just yet! Skate up to it and jump on, locking your skates in
the right position. You can stall in a soul, royale, backside/frontside,
or just about anything else! Just remember to lock the skates into the
right places. After practicing stalling, you can try jumping off the thing that you are grinding just regularly or put in with another trick such as
coming off backwards or fakie, doing 360's and 180's or whatever you can think of.
Hey, after all the possibilities are endless! After you can stall the grind, go out and start to grind it by getting more speed.
